P-BRUINS FALL TO BEARS
Oct 20, 2023Providence, RI - Forward Luke Toporowski potted a short-handed goal in the first period for the Providence Bruins in a 3-2 loss to the Hershey Bears on Friday night at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. Defenseman Dan Renouf tallied the other goal for Providence late in the third period.
How It Happened
- While short-handed, Toporowski rushed the puck up the right wing and fired a shot from the top of the right circle that beat the goaltender on the blocker-side, giving the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead with 12:02 left in the first period.
- Mike Vecchione tied the game at 1-1 on the power play, tipping in a shot from the point with 14:40 remaining in the second period.
- With 26 seconds left in the second period, Ivan Miroschnichenko collected a rebound at the left post and put it into a wide open net, giving the Bears a 2-1 lead.
- From the right post, Matthew Sgarbossa redirected the puck with his skate across the goal line, extending the Hershey lead to 3-1 1:10 into the third period.
- From behind the net, Jesper Boqvist fed Renouf in the slot, who one-timed the puck through the goaltender, cutting the Hershey lead to 3-2 with 5:45 left in the third period.
Stats
- Goaltender Brandon Bussi stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced. The P-Bruins totaled 16 shots.
- The Providence power play went 0-for-2, and the penalty kill was 4-for-5.
